About Blynn Nelson
|
The seeds of Reckless Necklace were planted by my grandmother, who when I was ten, gave me a box of her favorite broaches. I treasured those broaches as a special gift from a woman I loved, she had the gift of making me feel safe, loved and confident .I kept them in that box for years, pulling them out occasionally , wondering how I could incorporate them into my own unique style.... they demanded to be worn!
One of the broaches became the basis of the first Reckless Necklace. I combined it with glass beads, turquoise and a vintage bracelet that I had found at a flea market. I loved the idea of natural and man-made material being combined with vintage- this became the Reckless Necklace "style".
Imagine my complete surprise when on a trip with friends to Saratoga Springs when woman after woman of all ages, strangers, asked me about my necklace and where they could purchase one!!! It gave me a chance to share a bit of my grandmother and have a brief conversation about the meaning behind the creation. My friends watched this happening and one of them said "Bynn, you have got to make these necklaces." That was 5 years ago and I have been creating ever since...ever evolving as an artist.
I love the creative process- working in three dimensions always considering the full 360 of a women's neck. Combining vintage and modern, hard lines with curves, unusual color combinations, bold with feminine, organic. All this draws you into my jewelry because of its sculptural quality, thoughtful but bold, tasteful and always unique design. The necklaces invoke a response. Client after client share stories of how they are repeatedly stopped while wearing their necklace asked where they can be purchased .I myself have sold necklaces right off my neck more than once.
My inspiration comes from everywhere I am. I gather my vintage pieces, found objects, chandelier crystals, pearls anything can inspire me whether it is shape, color, texture, form anything that strikes me and makes a statement about confidence it becomes the focal point of the necklace, and then I construct the necklace around a central piece juxtaposing a variety of materials that contrast in color, shape, style and material to create a unique necklace that truly empowers the woman who wears it.
I have lived in Rochester most of my life, graduating from Rochester Institute of Technology with a Bachelors of Interior Design. My husband, two beautiful children Jarrett and Grace and my crazy chocolate lab Charlie and many close friends make it possible for me to have built Reckless Necklace.
A true statement, Reckless Necklaces are unforgettable.
